World's Largest Shuttlecocks Detail

Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City Missouri

You may be wondering why the image is blanked out - in asking about the background of the sculpture and public reaction to its installation, the institution made sure to inform me of their reproduction rights to the artwork. Rather than giving any sort of background information, reference resources, or who to ask for more than just the surface story, they referred me to their legal department.

So, although it IS a public work, there will be no images of the actual sculptures posted here. (Note to art institutions - you've forgotten your audience, once again. Art is not for the elite, especially Oldenburg's art - aggressively turning away inquiries from individuals outside the current museum system is counter to your stated goals, the spirit of this sculpture, as well as the sculptor's vision)

(Stepping off of soap box now...)

The WLLCo/WSVo/WLT at the Nelson Atkins

While I was getting a decidedly cold reception fro the high-ups, every one of the museum guards came up to me and said "I saw you on KCPT's Rare Visions and Roadside Revelations - I'm gonna sneak off and see your bus..."

Somehow, once again, it's the everyday person that really "gets it"...
