World's Largest Kool-Aid Stand

Hastings Nebraska

As an illustration of an Annual World's Largest, just go to the home of Kool-Aid! Not sure where that is? It was invented in Hastings Nebraska in 1927 by Edwin Perkins. And, at their annual Kool-Aid Days, the city of Hastings erects the World's Largest Kool-Aid Stand, serving classic flavors, sugar-free versions, and new favorites! One commemorative mug gets you as many refills as you desire, turning your tongue a multitude of colors in a very short period of time.

Since the Stand is a part of an Event, you can't see one without participating in some of the Other - highlights of the day included the home-made kiddie games inside the city auditorium, the Edible Art Contest (major ingredient had to be Kool-Aid, and tasting is involved), and a rather sad-looking Kool-Aid Man who had a tendency to deflate as it was a float-like costume as opposed to the large plastic or rigid foam version we all have in our heads... (Where's our hero that used to break through walls to save kiddies from their colorless thirst?!)

Since it's not a permanent installation, there's only a World's Largest there for one day - but, one can always hope... How about a permanent Kool-Aid man? Bursting through the brick wall of the original Kool-Aid site!?! Or towering over Kool-Aid Avenue??!!? The possibilities are endless, but for now visitors will have to content themselves with a tiny little comemorative plaque on a downtown building (506-508 West First Street) and the anticipation of the temporary Certified Genuine World's Largest Thing.
